What is Novemberfestivalen?
Novemberfestivalen is an annual film festival dedicated to showcasing the talent and creativity of young filmmakers. Held in the heart of Trollhättan, a city known for its rich film culture and inspiring landscapes, this festival is a hub for innovation, collaboration, and cinematic exploration. Whether you're an aspiring director, a budding screenwriter, or simply a film lover, Novemberfestivalen offers something for everyone.
National competition
Novemberfestivalens national competition is preceded by 19 regional selections around the country and the competition constitutes a national "final". During the two days of the festival, approximately 45 of Sweden's best short films made by young filmmakers will be shown. The films competing nationally in the middleweight (16-19 years) and heavyweight (20-26 years) classes must follow the national rules and be judged by a qualified jury.
Novemberfestivalen International competition
Are you a passionate filmmaker aged 18 to 26 with a story that needs to be seen? This is your moment. Make sure your film follows our rules and criteria. If you want to submit a film, please send an email to: novemberfestivalen@trollhattan.se
You will recieve a password to the application form.
Rules for Novemberfestivalen International Section 2025:
• The film must have been produced in 2024 or 2025.
• The film must not have been registered to Novemberfestivalen before.
• The film may have a length of up to 15 minutes, including vignettes, subtitles and the like.
• The director of the film must have had an age of 18-26 when the film was completed. If there are more than one director of the film, it is the age of the oldest that decides on participation.
• The filmmaker must hold all rights to all image and audio material included in the film.
• The film must have English subtitles regardless of whether the film has English as original language.
• The filmmaker must ensure that it is the best possible viewing copy sent to Novemberfestivalen. We accept most video formats. We do not accept DCP.
You can follow the technical specifications below to make sure your film file holds the standards:
• Compression: H.264 (select the highest quality)
• We also receive high-resolution file formats where the files are low compressed. Examples are Apple Pro Res or Apple Animation for animations etc.
• Encapsulation format: .mov or .mp4 or high resolution AVI (not MKV)
• It is important that no video material is anamorphic (compressed image).
• All pixels must be square.
• All frames must be progressive (not interlaced, ie not lower / upper field).
• The file name must contain the film title.
We accept files up to 10 GB in size.
Deadline for submission of film is September 14, 2025.
Novemberfestivalen works for close contact with the film industry and participates in international networks with other festivals and forums for young filmmakers. Novemberfestivalen is organized by N3, City of Trollhättan, with the support of the Swedish Film Institute, the Västra Götaland region and Folkets Hus Kulturhuset.
